Desert Hot SpringsJust north of Palm Springs, in the shadow of the Little San Bernardino Mountains, lies Desert Hot Springs, a small community of about 19,500 people marked by its sense of wilderness, hotels and spas. Since the discovery of hot mineral springs, the city has begun to capitalize on this natural resource. Today, thousands of visitors come to the city, taking advantage of the spas, believed by some to bolster nutrition and improve circulation and relaxation. Desert Hot Springs also has three city parks, the crown jewel being Hot Springs Park with an interactive water display showcasing the city's springs. The city also has several public golf courses, tennis courts, and miles of hiking and bridle trails on the desert floor and in the mountains adjacent to the city. Another point of interest is a trail off Long Canyon road that leads to a stone cabin built by local legend Chuckwalla Bill. IndioIndio is blessed with one of the sunniest climates in the world. There's golf, tennis, shopping, fine dining and glittering casino nightlife. With more than 50,000 permanent residents, Indio is the largest as well as the oldest city in the Coachella Valley. It is also a gateway to Joshua Tree National Park, where the Colorado and Mojave Deserts come together to form some of the most unique geological displays known to man. Indio is the City of Festivals with eight major events including three Native American powwows, Southwest Arts Festival, Indio International Tamale Festival, National Date Festival and Riverside County Fair, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the world-class seven week Indio Desert Circuit Horse Show, as well as numerous smaller fairs and concerts. The winter season is filled with exciting things to do. Indio hosts a number of national sporting events, including the Skins Game and the Indio Desert Circuit, America's largest horse show, plus world class polo. Heritage Palms is known throughout the Valley for its greens. This course allows golfers to use all the clubs in their bag. The course offers plenty of variety, with water coming into play on four holes, yet the course is player friendly and inviting to beginners as well as the most seasoned golfers. Palm Springs is also home to the Desert Museum, the Air Museum that showcases flying-condition WWII aircraft and the Palm Springs Convention Center.
